Genuine Worship is the expression of Christ in You to the Father
Genuine Worship is a life of choices to genuinely let Christ live and express His life of worship to the Father in and through us. Where is there a single verse of scripture that speaks of worship related to singing for those of us in earthly bodies in the church age? Perhaps we have our worship, praise, and singing all mixed up in a spiritual blender. Or perhaps, we really need to know more about Christ -- the Person of Genuine Worship who lives in us. Let us look to see what the Holy Spirit and the Scriptures focus on concerning genuine life worship.
GENUINE WORSHIP
By Dwight Davis"I have already been co-crucified with Christ; nevertheless I ever live, yet no longer I, but Christ ever lives in me; and the life I now ever live in the flesh, I ever live in faith by the Son of God, who once then having loved me, also at intervals is giving Himself up in behalf of me" (Gal. 2:20, author's translation).
First, Christ's Work on the Cross Opens the Door for Our Genuine Worship
Paul declares our genuine identification is to Christ in Galatians 2:20. That identification with Christ is at the true heart of genuine worship. The word for "crucified" in the Greek (Gal. 2:20) is actually "co-crucified." In the natural it would simply translate as "crucified together with." In the full genuine meaning in the Spirit, it means "co-crucified together as one." When Christ was crucified, my old Adamic nature and the original sin of Adam were co-crucified together with Him as one. All my sin was upon Christ on the cross. Christ's finished work on the cross in our behalf, opens the door for us to be able to come boldly and enter the presence of God for genuine worship.
Second, Love of the World is Our Genuine Worship of Someone Else
Jesus of Nazareth was "led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil" (Matt. 4:1). The devil showed Jesus "all the kingdoms of this world and their glory" (Matt. 4:8). The devil offered Jesus all these things, if He would fall down and worship him (Matt. 4:9). Jesus refused! Jesus said, "Away with you, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve.' " (Matt. 4:10). In the natural, worship is falling down prostate before another in reverence or adoration. In the Spirit, worship is letting our heart, mind, and strength serve something or someone. Think about it. Anytime that you give your heart, mind, and strength over to love and lust after the things of the kingdoms of this world and their glory, are you not giving your time in worship to Satan? John said, "Do not love the world or the things of the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him" (I John 2:15). Don't be mistaken, love of this world is our genuine worship of something or someone else. It is certainly not genuine worship of our Father.
Third, Christ is the Genuine Worshipper of the Father In and Through Us
Jesus clearly said that we should worship the Father. The Father is the object of genuine worship. The Son is the genuine worshipper of the Father. The Father wanted to have some sons to love Him. In the Father's eternal plan, He sent His Son to reveal Himself to us. The Son died on the cross to redeem us to the Father. His shed blood justified us to the Father. The Father sent the Holy Spirit to provide us a Spiritual birthing. The Holy Spirit in conjunction with the belief in our heart, placed the Person and Spirit of His Son in us to live His eternal life in us as us. We now have the genuine worshipper of the Father living in us. Genuine worship comes from Christ living His life to the Father in and through us as us. Christ doesn't bow down to other things. Christ doesn't bow down to Satan. Christ only loves and genuinely worships the Father. Perhaps, we need to know much more about the Person of genuine worship.
Fourth, Genuine Worship is to Choose to Let Christ Express Himself in Us
Paul pleaded with the church and said, "I continually beseech you, brothers through the compassion of God to once then present your bodies an ever living sacrifice, holy, well-pleasing to God, your reasonable worship" (Rom. 12:1). We once then present our bodies at salvation to God and received Christ as our life. However, the ever living sacrifice is our daily choices to let Christ live in and through us as us. That is what Paul was talking about when he said, "I ever live, yet no longer I, but Christ ever lives in me" (Gal. 2:20). Genuine worship of the Father is to let Christ express His life in and through us as us. We normally think about worship services. We have worship leaders in church meetings and services. We normally relate worship to singing. However, I have yet to find one verse relating worship to singing in the church age. Perhaps we have worship, praise, and singing all mixed up together in some sort of spiritual blender. The scripture relates genuine worship to an ever-living life of choices to genuinely let Christ live and be expressed in us as us to and for others.
Fifth, Holy Spirit Transformed to Genuine Worship By the Renewed Mind
Paul continues on to tell us how your reasonable and genuine worship can take place. It comes by the Holy Spirit renewing your mind. Paul says, "And do not ever be conformed to this age, but be ever transformed by the renewing of mind, in order for you to continually prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and complete will of God" (Rom. 12:2). Only the Holy Spirit can transform us. Only the Holy Spirit can renew the Mind. The Holy Spirit presents Christ, who is the lover and genuine worshipper of the Father (John 14:26; 15:26; 16:13-15). One of the marks of Holy Spirit transformation of the Spirit birthed sons of God is that they will have a renewed mind. Transformed sons no longer see through the eyes of Adam but through the eyes of Christ with genuine life worship.
Sixth, Transformed Sons will Have a Genuine Life Worship of the Father
Transformed sons are crucified to everything of this world, and Christ really is their life, their only life. Transformed sons are not trying to do anything for God. Transformed sons are constantly letting Christ be the expresser of life within them. Christ – the perfect and complete will of the Father, will express His eternal life in them as the genuine life worshipper of the Father. Transformed sons will count all things loss for Christ (Phil. 3:7). Transformed sons will know Christ, and know that they are in Him, not just facts about Him (Phil. 3:8,9). They will have a deep, personal fellowship with Christ to the fullest extent, and through Him a love and genuine life worship of the Father (Phil. 3:10; I John 1:3).
Seventh, Christ Will Express His Life of Genuine Worship In & Through Us
Through the open door in heaven, John saw the events after the church age. John saw four living creatures, 24 elders, angels and the redeemed with genuine worship to the Son and the Father. The word "worthy" and "worship" both come from the exact same root word in the Greek. All those in heaven have glorified or heavenly bodies. The Church are earthly members of the Body of Christ. Christ – the head, lives in every earthly member. Spiritually birthed sons of God need to know Christ in them – the heavenly Person of genuine worship. Christ will express His life of genuine worship to the Father in and through us.
