Prophesies of Jesus

Twenty of the Over 300 prophecies are fulfilled in Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection

1 Peter 1:18-20 knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, 19but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. 20For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you. (NASB)

In each of the following points, the Prophesy from the Old Testament is first listed, and then the Fulfillment from the New Testament Scriptures.

Jesus Birthplace:

Micah 5:2

"But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,

Too little to be among the clans of Judah,

From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel.

His goings forth are from long ago,

From the days of eternity."

Matthew 2:1-6

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, 2"Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east, and have come to worship Him." 3And when Herod the king heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 4And gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he began to inquire of them where the Christ was to be born. 5And they said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it has been written by the prophet,

6'And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah,

Are by no means least among the leaders of Judah;

For out of you shall come forth a Ruler,

Who will SHEPHERD My people Israel.' "

Jesus Born Of A Virgin:

Isaiah 7:14

"Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.

Matthew 1:20-23

But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for that which has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21"And she will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for it is He who will save His people from their sins." 22Now all this took place that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet might be fulfilled, saying, 23"Behold, the virgin shall be with CHILD, AND SHALL BEAR A Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which translated means, "God with us."

Messiah Tempted of Satan:

Psalm 91:10-12

No evil will befall you,

Nor will any plague come near your tent.

11For He will give His angels charge concerning you,

To guard you in all your ways.

12They will bear you up in their hands,

Lest you strike your foot against a stone.

Matthew 4:5-7

Then the devil took Him into the holy city; and he had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, 6and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God throw Yourself down; for it is written,

'He will give His angels charge concerning You';

and

'On their hands they will bear You up,

Lest You strike Your foot against a stone.' "

7Jesus said to him, "On the other hand, it is written, 'You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.' "

Messiah Enters Jerusalem Triumphantly:

Zech. 9:9

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!

Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem!

Behold, your king is coming to you;

He is just and endowed with salvation,

Humble, and mounted on a donkey,

Even on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

Matthew 21:8-11

And most of the multitude spread their garments in the road, and others were cutting branches from the trees, and spreading them in the road. 9And the multitudes going before Him, and those who followed after were crying out, saying,

"Hosanna to the Son of David;

Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord;

Hosanna in the highest!"

10And when He had entered Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, "Who is this?" 11And the multitudes were saying, "This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth in Galilee."

Rejected of His Own People:

Isaiah 53:1

Who has believed our message?

And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?

Isaiah 53:3

He was despised and forsaken of men,

A man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief;

And like one from whom men hide their face,

He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

John 1:10-11

He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. 11He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him.

Matthew 26:3-4

Then the chief priests and the elders of the people were gathered together in the court of the high priest, named Caiaphas; 4and they plotted together to seize Jesus by stealth, and kill Him.

Betrayed By His Followers:

Psalm 41:9

Even my close friend, in whom I trusted,

Who ate my bread,

Has lifted up his heel against me.

Psalm 55:12-13

For it is not an enemy who reproaches me,

Then I could bear it;

Nor is it one who hates me who has exalted himself against me,

Then I could hide myself from him.

13But it is you, a man my equal,

My companion and my familiar friend.

Matthew 26:47

And while He was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, came up, accompanied by a great multitude with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and elders of the people.

Matthew 26:49-50

And immediately he went to Jesus and said, "Hail, Rabbi!" and kissed Him. 50And Jesus said to him, "Friend, do what you have come for." Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and seized Him.

Betrayed For 30 Pieces of Silver:

Zech. 11:12-13

And I said to them, "If it is good in your sight, give me my wages; but if not, never mind!" So they weighed out thirty shekels of silver as my wages. 13Then the Lord said to me, "Throw it to the potter, that magnificent price at which I was valued by them." So I took the thirty shekels of silver and threw them to the potter in the house of the Lord.

Matthew 26:14-16

Then one of the twelve, named Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests, 15and said, "What are you willing to give me to deliver Him up to you?" And they weighed out to him thirty pieces of silver. 16And from then on he began looking for a good opportunity to betray Him.

Matthew 27:3-4

Then when Judas, who had betrayed Him, saw that He had been condemned, he felt remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, 4saying, "I have sinned by betraying innocent blood." But they said, "What is that to us? See to that yourself!"

Tried & Condemned:

Isaiah 53:8 (Written in 538BC)

By oppression and judgment He was taken away;

And as for His generation, who considered

That He was cut off out of the land of the living,

For the transgression of my people to whom the stroke was due?

Now when morning had come, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put Him to death; 2and they bound Him, and led Him away, and delivered Him up to Pilate the governor.

Silent Before His Accusers:

Psalm 35:11

Malicious witnesses rise up;

They ask me of things that I do not know.

Isaiah 53:7-8

He was oppressed and He was afflicted,

Yet He did not open His mouth;

Like a lamb that is led to slaughter,

And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers,

So He did not open His mouth.

8By oppression and judgment He was taken away;

And as for His generation, who considered

That He was cut off out of the land of the living,

For the transgression of my people to whom the stroke was due?

Matthew 15:3-5

And He answered and said to them, "And why do you yourselves transgress the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? 4"For God said, 'Honor your father and mother,' and, 'He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him BE PUT TO DEATH.' 5"But you say, 'Whoever shall say to his father or mother, "Anything of mine you might have been helped by has been given to God,"

1 Peter 2:22-23

who COMMITTED NO SIN, NOR WAS ANY DECEIT FOUND IN His mouth; 23and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously;

Smitten & Spit Upon:

Micah 5:1

"Now muster yourselves in troops, daughter of troops;

They have laid siege against us;

With a rod they will smite the judge of Israel on the cheek.

Isaiah 50:6

I gave My back to those who strike Me,

And My cheeks to those who pluck out the beard;

I did not cover My face from humiliation and spitting.

Matthew 27:30

And they spat on Him, and took the reed and began to beat Him on the head.

John 19:1-3

Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged Him. 2And the soldiers wove a crown of thorns and put it on His head, and arrayed Him in a purple robe; 3and they began to come up to Him, and say, "Hail, King of the Jews!" and to give Him blows in the face.

Mocked & Taunted:

Psalm 22:7-8

All who see me sneer at me;

They separate with the lip, they wag the head, saying,

8"Commit yourself to the Lord; let Him deliver him;

Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him."

Matthew 27:39-40

And those passing by were hurling abuse at Him, wagging their heads, 40and saying, "You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross."

Luke 23:11

And Herod with his soldiers, after treating Him with contempt and mocking Him, dressed Him in a gorgeous robe and sent Him back to Pilate.

Luke 23:35

And the people stood by, looking on. And even the rulers were sneering at Him, saying, "He saved others; let Him save Himself if this is the Christ of God, His Chosen One."

Crucified with Pierced Hands & Feet:

Psalm 22:14-16

I am poured out like water,

And all my bones are out of joint;

My heart is like wax;

It is melted within me.

15My strength is dried up like a potsherd,

And my tongue cleaves to my jaws;

And Thou dost lay me in the dust of death.

16For dogs have surrounded me;

A band of evildoers has encompassed me;

They pierced my hands and my feet.

Zech. 12:10

"And I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him, like the bitter weeping over a first-born.

Matthew 27:31

And after they had mocked Him, they took His robe off and put His garments on Him, and led Him away to crucify Him.

They therefore cried out, "Away with Him, away with Him, crucify Him!" Pilate said to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chief priests answered, "We have no king but Caesar." 16So he then delivered Him to them to be crucified.

Suffers With Sinners:

Isaiah 53:12

Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great,

And He will divide the booty with the strong;

Because He poured out Himself to death,

And was numbered with the transgressors;

Yet He Himself bore the sin of many,

And interceded for the transgressors.

Matthew 27:38

At that time two robbers were crucified with Him, one on the right and one on the left.

Mark 15:27

And they crucified two robbers with Him, one on His right and one on His left.

Luke 23:32-33

And two others also, who were criminals, were being led away to be put to death with Him.

33And when they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left.

His Garment Divided:

Psalm 22:18

They divide my garments among them,

And for my clothing they cast lots.

Matthew 27:35

And when they had crucified Him, they divided up His garments among themselves, casting lots;

Mark 15:24

And they crucified Him, and divided up His garments among themselves, casting lots for them, to decide what each should take.

John 19:23-24

The soldiers therefore, when they had crucified Jesus, took His outer garments and made four parts, a part to every soldier and also the tunic; now the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece. 24They said therefore to one another, "Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, to decide whose it shall be"; that the Scripture might be fulfilled, "They DIVIDED My outer garments among them, and for My clothing they cast LOTS."

No Bones Broken:

Numbers 9:12

'They shall leave none of it until morning, nor break a bone of it; according to all the statute of the Passover they shall observe it.

John 19:31-37

The Jews therefore, because it was the day of preparation, so that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. 32The soldiers therefore came, and broke the legs of the first man, and of the other man who was crucified with Him; 33but coming to Jesus, when they saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs; 34but one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately there came out blood and water. 35And he who has seen has borne witness, and his witness is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you also may believe. 36For these things came to pass, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, "Not a bone of Him shall be BROKEN." 37And again another Scripture says, "They shall look on Him whom they pierced."

Died As A Sin Offering:

Isaiah 53:5-6

But He was pierced through for our transgressions,

He was crushed for our iniquities;

The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him,

And by His scourging we are healed.

6All of us like sheep have gone astray,

Each of us has turned to his own way;

But the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all

To fall on Him.

Isaiah 53:8

By oppression and judgment He was taken away;

And as for His generation, who considered

That He was cut off out of the land of the living,

For the transgression of my people to whom the stroke was due?

Isaiah 53:12

Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great,

And He will divide the booty with the strong;

And interceded for the transgressors.

and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the first-born of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loves us, and released us from our sins by His blood,

Will See His Seed:

Isaiah 53:10-11

But the Lord was pleased

To crush Him, putting Him to grief;

If He would render Himself as a guilt offering,

He will see His offspring,

He will prolong His days,

And the good pleasure of the Lord will prosper in His hand.

11As a result of the anguish of His soul,

He will see it and be satisfied;

By His knowledge the Righteous One,

My Servant, will justify the many,

As He will bear their iniquities.

Ephes. 1:4-5

just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him. In love 5He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will,

Ephes. 1:21-23

far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in the one to come. 22And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, 23which is His body, the fulness of Him who fills all in all.

Hebrews 12:2

fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Because He had done no violence,

Nor was there any deceit in His mouth.

Matthew 27:57-60

And when it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who himself had also become a disciple of Jesus. 58This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it to be given over to him. 59And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, 60and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the entrance of the tomb and went away.

Mark 16:6-7

And he said to them, "Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who has been crucified. Thou wilt make me full of gladness with Thy presence.'

29"Brethren, I may confidently say to you regarding the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. 30"And so, because he was a prophet, and knew that God had sworn to him with an oath to seat one of his descendants upon his throne, 31he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that He was neither abandoned to Hades, nor did His flesh suffer decay.

'The Lord said to my Lord,

"Sit at My right hand,

35Until I make Thine enemies a footstool for Thy feet." '

36"Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ-- this Jesus whom you crucified."

Hebrews 10:12-13

but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of God, 13waiting from that time onward until His enemies be made a footstool for His feet.
