Session #1: An Introduction … The Sanctification of … Our Whole Being…Is God’s Work

A Study of the Spiritual Realities of our walk “In Christ” as Seen in the OT, in Types

“After Resurrection,Jesus Taught of Himself from the OT – Spirit revelation is needed.

Before: Luke 18:34 And they (disciples) understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.

After Lk 24:24-32 On road to Emmaus disciples said of Risen Jesus saying, “did not our heart burn within us”

Luke 24:44-45 he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. 45Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, (OT)

Paul Says Israel’s Experience in the OT, was also a shadow and for our learning

1 Cor. 10:1-6, 11 For I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; [2] and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea; [3] and all ate the same spiritual food; [4] and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was Christ. [5] Nevertheless, with most of them God was not well-pleased; for they were laid low in the wilderness. [6] Now these things happened as examples for us, that we should not crave evil things, as they also craved. …[11] Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.. (NASB)

Likewise - The Process of Our Sanctification is Seen by OT Types & Shadows.

1 Thes. 5:23-24 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

God Will Do It - As Seen with God’s Abrahamic Covenant (Read Gen 15:7, 12, 17:18)

NOT a Covenant but a one-sided “promise” that God will get Abraham to Rest, in the LAND.

· Abram Slept & God Promised Genesis 15:12 And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him. 17 It came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.

· Seen one-side since “Abraham slept while God promised.” Adam slept as Eve came out of his side, a type of the Church coming out of Christ’s side. out of His sleep (Jesus’ death).

· Our Sanctification (1Thes 5:23-24) is a “promise” – He will do it!

· As with Israel, He’ll bring us to “dwell in spiritual the Land of Promise,” land of rest.

The Land” was Promised Repeatedly To Abram & His Seed (Gen 12:7, 13:17, 15:7, 12, 17-18, 17:8)

· The Land prefigured by “the dry land” appearing on the “Third day” of the recreation.

· The Eden land contained a 3-headed river which had in it gold, bdellium (pearl) and onyx

The flowing river (Spirit) has the power to transform those in it; See Gen 2:11-12

3 Stage Sanctification - a lifetime Process, by which we are Separated from Egypt …to cross the wilderness, to Dwell in Canaan, which is a type of living by Christ’s resurrected Spirit of life in our spirit.

1) All Christians are Miraculously Delivered from Egypt’s Pharaoh, (The Devil)

2) Yet, Most Wander Many Years in the Wilderness (Israel never learned toTrust God)

Israel Witnessed that the Bitter Waters of Life Can Be Made Sweet by Trusting a Tree.

Exodus 15:23-26 … when they (Israel) came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah. 24Moses…cried unto the Lord; and the Lord shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet:

Deuteronomy 1:1 Takes Place, Still After 40 years in the Wilderness

Deut. 1:1a These be the words which Moses spake unto all Israel on this side Jordan in the wilderness, in the plain over against the Red sea… (<<< Back where they crossed from Egypt)

· The Israelites … had gotten “Out of EgyptBut NOT Yet Into Canaan”

· They died in Unbelief!

Our Soul, in the Wilderness, is in Need of Renewal to Trust God, to Enter Into Rest (Canaan)

3) Only By Trusting Him, do we Enter Into Canaan, then being Sanctified by His life.

Three (3) Steps to “Sanctification” - Seen with Israel (See Trilogy of Types Diagram)

Sanctification of Our 1) Spirit, 2) Soul, and 3) Body, are Seen in two of Israel’s Experiences

1. Moving Out of Egypt, … through the Wilderness, … into Canaan

2. Moving Out of the Outer Court, … past the Holy Place, …into the Holiest of All

My Personal Journey

- In 1968 I was reconciled to God. I was saved by grace and, I had left Egypt (The World)

- Within 6 months, I knew there had to be more than salvation from hell. So, I began my Journey through the Wilderness. I sought more of God – The Land o”f Canaan.

- In 1975, I had a revelation of “Christ in me,” … but, I never “entered into Canaan.”

- In 1994, by a stress heart attack, I came to see I had never really lived by and in Christ’s life (Canaan) within me. I saw my Independent, Adamic, Soul-Self had never trusted Him for my daily life. It kept me from enjoying the fruit of the land – Rest & Peace.

Today, as to my physical body … I still live in Egypt (the world)

· as to my soul… by His grace I’m learning to deny, my “Independent, self-reliant, Self

o I’m leaving the Wilderness of my “independent soul-self,” to Trust Him

· In the Land of Canaan, in my spirit … Christ, is my new life, … my Rest.

o In Trusting, I am now letting go to become a proper “Dependent, soul-self.”

Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and

the life which I now live in the flesh (on earth) I live by the faith of the Son of God,

who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Seeing the Two Sides of Christ’s One Cross

Jn 19:34 one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, forthwith came there out blood (for redemption) and water (for life-giving).

1. 1st we Receive God’s reconciliation and redemption byHis blood & Death

2. Simultaneously, We Received Christ’sResurrected Life into our human spirit.

1John 4:13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

Col 3:4 When Christ, who is our life

But, it’s only many years later that we come to learn to “trust in, cling to and rely upon” Christ, for our continual salvation that we, as a soul self, may have by simply abiding and trusting in the Spirit of Christ in our spirit (Canaan), … as the life and Lord of Our Living.

Saul (Our Independent Soul as a Self-king) vs. David (as the Sanctified, soul-self, subject to Christ)

2 Samuel 3:1 Now there was long war between the house of Saul and the house of David: but David waxed stronger and stronger, and the house of Saul waxed weaker and weaker.

Objective(factual) & “Subjective (experiential) Salvation

· For every Christian, the battle is already won, objectively, factually.

Ephes. 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 1 Cor. 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

· We learn subjectively, through our experiences of life, suffering the loss of self-rule.

Ephes. 4:20 But ye have not so learned Christ; Ephes. 4:23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

Heb 5:8 Though he a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered (painfully endured);

2 Cor. 4:17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a eternal weight of glory;

2 Cor. 1:8-9 we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life: 9But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:

Understanding the Basis and Process of Our Sanctification

1. We All Started with God’s Intervention and a Call upon Our Lives.

2. Then as Abraham, we Seek to Dwell in the Land, Canaan = In Christ, In our spirit

Gen 12:1-2, 4-7 Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: 4So Abram departed, … 5… and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came. 6…And the Canaanite was then in the land. 7And the Lord appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the Lord, who appeared unto him.

Israel’s Experience is One of … Coming to Dwell In The Land (of Christ, in our spirit)

Paul Says There Is A Salvation That Is “Much More” Than Being Reconciled.

Rom 5:10 … we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being (having been) reconciled, we shall be saved (sozo, made whole) by his life.

· All Regenerated Christians are Reconciled, Saved from Perdition, Judgment

· Yet, only some have come to trust Christ in them, in their daily living on this earth, to find rest and peace for their souls.

Filled with the Spirit

FACT: We’re Already Filled with the Spirit of Life, in our Human Spirit, by Christ in us.

2 Cor. 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. << All, 100% new in our spirit NOT yet new in body or soul.

Jn 3:34 … for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him (Jesus).

1 John 4:13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

1 Cor. 6:17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

1 Cor. 12:13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. (NASB)

Romans 8:8-10 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. 9But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. 10And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life

Col. 1:27this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

Spirit in,” NOT “Spirit upon,” as in a Pentecostal Way

Luke 24: 49And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued (enduo, clothed) with power from on high.

Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Fear Brought Spirit Leakage (Fear by Listening to the religions lying threats)

Acts 4:24, 29, 31 (they prayed) Lord … 29And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, 31when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled (pletho, furnished - again) with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

Needing To Be “Filled In Our Soul” - By Knowing Him & Trusting Him

Filled By Knowing Experientially, - through Experiencing of His Love & His Saving Life

Ephes. 3:19 And to know (ginosko, experiential knowledge) the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge (gnosis, head knowledge), that ye might be filled (pleroo, made replete) with all the fulness of God.

Col. 1:9 …we … do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

2 Cor. 1:8-9 For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life: But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:

Our Walk Follows Our New, Learned, Mindset

- “to be Subject to Christ in Our Spirit, As Lord of Our Living

Galatians 5:16Walk in (walk subject to) the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

Galatians 5:25 If we live (since we have life) in the Spirit, let us also walk (subject to) in the Spirit.

Romans 8:6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, (NASB)

Our Pattern for Living - Jesus did Nothing of Himself, He lived By the Father

Jn 5:19 …The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

Philip. 2:5 Let this mind (phroneo, mindset, attitude) be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Eating Christ IsAbiding In Union with HimFor A New “Mindset

John 6:48-57Eat my flesh and drink my blood

What you eat becomes part of you – in Union with you

John 6:56-57 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. 57As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by (in union with) the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by (in union with) me.

Manna was A Type of Christ (The Bread of Life) To be Eaten but Only in the Wilderness

John 6:48-50 I am that bread of life. 49Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. 50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.

Knowing Christ Is All – We Can Rest – The “Seventh Day” Speaks of a Rest from Works

There is a Rest – Only for Christians Who Trust – These are the “At Rest” Christians

Hebrews 4:1-6 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. 2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. 3For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. 5And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. 6Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached (Israel) entered not in because of unbelief:

Hebrews 4:10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works

Knowing God as Your Father Makes You Secure

John 20:17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

Rom 8:15-17 … ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.16The Spirit itself (Himself) beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

Romans 8:37-39 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 John 4:16 And we have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. (NASB)

Gal 4:7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

Your Father Is Working All Things On Your Behalf

Philip. 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Philip. 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
