According to a survey of 1,100 hundred people, 59% believe there is intelligent life in outer space. That seems like a high number to me unless the survey was taken in Roswell New Mexico, USA. Do I believe there is intelligent life in outer space? Absolutely!!! That’s where God lives and his myriad of angels. I’m not buying the ET characters and little green men but I’m all in on the heavenly host gang.

Science was not my best subject and one of the few things I know about space was that they named one of the planets, Mars. I do know that light travels really fast and that meteor showers leave more debris than a herd of teenagers passing through a pizza parlor. One of the phenomenas of space is the solar eclipse. This is when the moon passes between the earth and sun and temporarily blocks out the sunlight from reaching earth. The moon prevents the sun from doing what it does best; bring warmth and sunshine to our earth. The sun wants to reach us with all of it’s life giving benefits but there is a barrier between us. It’s still shining, we just can’t see it.

In the past few weeks we have been looking at Colossians One, which centers on the headship of Christ – the Son of God. Paul pleads with them not to have an eclipse of the Son where the benefits of Christ are blocked from reaching them. When something comes between Christ and ourselves; we are cut off from His light. It could be a job, a power trip, money, sensuality, or just common ordinary selfishness. Since “God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in Him (Christ).” Col. 1:19; when we are cut off from Christ, we are cut off from God.

If we want to know what God is like, we look at Jesus; if we want to know if God is loving, we look at Jesus; if we want to know if God is compassionate, we look at Jesus so “that we may know the mystery of God, namely Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” Col. 2:2

Therefore we put our roots down deep into Christ that we may draw the spiritual nourishment that we need. Don’t be blocked off from the source of wisdom, understanding and power. Physical darkness is unsettling but spiritual darkness is terrifying.

One of the most common Son-blockers is suffering. Sometimes these events tend to block out the Son but Romans 8:18 tells, “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.” THE SON IS STILL SHINING!
