Dear Fellow Believers in Christ, (Genuine Unity is only in Christ in us as us)

How is the trinity of God the clearest example of "genuine unity? Do you realize how important genuine unity is to our getting saved? How can we be of one Spirit and one accord in the one body -- the Body of Christ? What was the primary reason that Jesus was hesitant about going to the cross in the Garden of Gethsemene? Did it have anything to do with genuine unity? Holy Spirit please give us a genuine and full revelation of the Christ -- the genuine unity Person living in us as us.

GENUINE UNITY

"I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as we are one: I in them, and You in Me, that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me" (John 17:20-23).

First, The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit Are In Total & Genuine Unity
Jesus moved from praying for His disciples to praying for everyone who in the future would believe in Him and be saved. This is Jesus' prayer for every Spiritually rebirthed saint. When you look close at this prayer, Jesus' heart cry for us is focused on genuine unity. From the very beginning of beginnings the Father and the Son were ever in perfect unity. Certainly, we can't leave out the Holy Spirit in that perfect unity. This is why we call the Godhead a trinity or a triune Godhead. This indicates there is one God. However, being an Omnipresent God, He is able to manifest Himself in more than one place and more than one personality at the same time. God has chosen to manifest Himself in three main Persons or personalities: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We have three (3) Persons in the genuine unity in direction, way, Spirit, motivation, and purpose – hence we define this as the triune Godhead, or three (3) Persons in total and genuine unity.

Second, The Holy Spirit Draws Us to Genuine Unity for Salvation
While there are only two (2) verses that speak of unity in the New Testament, there are numerous verses that speak of being one. There are over two dozen verses using the word – one, that describe various facets where genuine unity is found or manifested. One is used four (4) times in the text above of John 17:20-23. We must first have heart belief in Jesus and mouth confession of our word in order to be Spiritually rebirthed (Rom. 10:10). Certainly, this is by genuine unity operation of the Holy Spirit providing us the Word of Christ to believe in Jesus' finished work on the cross and the Father's satisfaction with Jesus' shed blood eternal sacrifice by raising Christ from the dead (Rom. 10:17; 3:24-26; 4:24-25; 10:9). The Holy Spirit draws us to genuine unity for salvation.

Third, Christ Himself Is in Us to be Our Genuine Unity in the Body of Christ
Paul said "For by one Spirit (the Holy Spirit) we were all baptized into one body –whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free – and all have been made to drink into one Spirit" (I Cor. 12:13). Regardless of our temporal background, culture, or station in life; we have all been Spiritually baptized into the Body of Christ. The Body of Christ is the total Spiritual Body of believers all over this world. The Body of Christ is the place of genuine unity for all believers. This speaks of the truth that we are all together in Christ – the source of genuine unity. Christ – Himself is Omnipresent in every saint to be our genuine unity.

Fourth, Genuine Unity Comes from a Renewed Mind for Christ to Use in Us
Genuine unity cannot come forth from an unrenewed mind. The Holy Spirit had to reveal Christ in order for us to come to genuine unity with Christ to be saved. We also must continually have Holy Spirit revelation to renew the mind with the truth of Christ and the finished work of the cross in order to remain in genuine unity in our walk in Christ. Do not misunderstand. I am not talking about Salvation. Our salvation is eternal and complete in the Spirit at our Spiritual rebirthing by the Holy Spirit from the split second we believed and confessed Him as our Lord. The renewal of the mind is a continuous process by the Holy Spirit that continues throughout our earthly walk. We are encouraged to be of one mind and walk in one accord (Phil. 1:27; 2:2; II Cor. 13:11). Genuine unity does not actually come because we all believe or think alike – or even look or act alike. Genuine unity comes only when we focus on Christ and let the Holy Spirit provide Him a renewed mind in one accord with Him and for Him to use to express Himself through us to others.

Fifth, The Cross is the Focus Point of Genuine Unity of Spiritual Power
Another facet of genuine unity is found in the cross. Why was Jesus hesitant about going to the cross in the Garden of Gethsemene? (Matt. 26:39). While death isn't pleasant thing, Jesus had already been denying Himself within His mind and His every action throughout His ministry (Phil. 2:5-8). Jesus had faced Satan's several temptations in the wilderness at the beginning of His ministry (Matt. 4:1-11). Certainly, these are all reasons for Jesus' hesitancy. However, the primary reason for Jesus' hesitancy, must have been the fact that for the first time in all eternity, He would have to be separated from His genuine unity with the Father. The Father was putting to death in that one body of Christ through His finished work on the cross everything that we inherited from Adam in his original sin (Eph. 2:16; Rom. 5:15-21). Christ's genuine obedience to the Father in completing His finished work brought us genuine reconciliation and redemption with the Father (Col. 1:20-22; Rom. 3:24-25). The cross is the focus point of genuine unity of Spiritual power in the eternal plan of God (I Cor. 1:18).

Sixth, We Have Genuine Unity through Christ in Us and Us in Christ
Paul declares, "For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus" (I Tim. 2:5). Through Christ's finished work on the cross coupled with Holy Spirit birthed salvation, we now can have a relationship with the Father. It was the Father's eternal plan to gather us together in one in all things in Christ (Eph. 1:10). For Christ is the Person of genuine unity. When the Father placed us into Christ and Christ into us at the Spiritual rebirthing, we now have everything of His genuine grace. Through being in Christ and Christ being in us, we now have His character and Spirit of genuine unity in us.

Seventh, We Are to Choose to Walk In One Spirit of Genuine Unity in Christ
Now in Christ, our background or history through the lineage of Adam is gone. We "are all one in Christ Jesus" (Gal. 3:28). That is a fact of Spiritual rebirthing. You are a living soul, and you live in a body (Gen. 2:7). One doesn't join oneself to sin and to flesh to become one flesh (I Cor. 6:12-16). No, one allows the Holy Spirit continually renew one "in the spirit of your mind" (Eph. 4:23). For he who is ever joined to the Lord is ever one Spirit of genuine unity
